... and a few back?
Tomorrw's cluster service is preceded by a bring and share tea, an opportunity for folk from four churches to get to know each other better. So why have a few of my folk said "do we have to go for tea"? Well, no, but it would really be a shame if you didn't.
Why are Baptists so flipping independent?!
Comments
because for too long we're preached an individualistic gospel. i'm exaggerating a little, but i think so truth in that.
Are Baptist congregations really more independent of each other than more connexional or parochial groupings? To be fair, it's probably not just Baptists who prefer their own company to that of the church down the road.
But it sure does feel like it sometimes!
I came across a photo of a joint cup-of tea (rather than a full-blown meat one) the other day. Seemed friendly enough once we'd actually persuaded them to worship together!
Thanks Andies/Andys/Andyies whatever the plural is!!
Andy G, I think that there is a fair bit of truth in the results of the whole individualistic thing, which is why it can be so hard to promote intra-fellowship never mind inter-fellowship community building.
Andy J, I'm sure it is true for non-Baptists too, and few of us actually relish eating with strangers (some primordial thingummy?), it is just rather sad that watching the Grand Prix on TV (or even cutting the lawn) trumps sharing with our 'sisters and brothers in Christ'
Andes?
Ah, if I'd known it was the motor racing... all my prejudices would have kicked in straight away! Do they not know someone with a video recorder?
I had the couple who go to the local stroke club parties instead of deacons meetings up at the front this Sunday talking about all the good stuff the local stroke club do. Then we prayed for the stroke club.
You could always include Lewis Hamilton in the interecessions next time.
Parties instead of deacons meetings - sounds great, why don't you suggest that you go to the party next time and they do the meeting for you... Then you can get prayed for!!!!
"To what shall I compare the Kingdom of Heaven? It is like a stroke club..."
Discuss.
I am sure it is...
